Job Title: Web Developer
Hours: Short-Term Contract
Term: Immediate – August 2021
Salary: Contract – $12,000

Job Description:

The Web Developer will be tasked with redesigning the website and creating web features that are accessible, visible and functional. The developer will liaise with the Resource Curator, persons involved in translation of materials for the website, and the Project Manager to oversee that work targets will be met in the desired timelines. The work will be overseen by a committee of the Board of Directors.

Key Deliverables and Timelines:

Propose and design a new website layout using the existing Wix platform or equivalent
August 31, 2021
Redesign the Virtual Diversity Library (i.e., layout, organization of materials)
August 31, 2021
Capacity Building for Board Members (i.e., training to members for simple website troubleshooting, incorporation of materials in the website)
August 31, 2021
Website Maintenance (i.e., tech support, cybersecurity)
August 31, 2021

Skills and Qualifications:
-Excellent visual design skills
-Excellent project management skills including strong leadership skills, attention to detail, writing and development skills, time management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in English and French an asset.
-Familiarity with social media platforms
-Strong working knowledge of Google Forms and Google Docs
-Understanding of ways to meet AODA website compliance requirements

Responsibilities & Deliverables:
-Mobile Friendly/Layout
-Create a website that is accessible to a wide variety of tech devices. The capacity to service mobile devices is to increase accessibility to all families, including those who may not have a home computer.
-Ideally, the website should be able to be easily accessed by mobile phones and tablets.
-Re-examine and propose new web layout organization to increase greater access and visibility.

Digital Library Enhancements
-Procure a web developer that can assist the Resource Curator to update the Diversity Library (digital)
-Provide a search function for greater ease of navigation (i.e., navigation bar, search functions)
-Connect with various publishers, authors, booksellers as required for bibliographical information

Accessibility Compliance
-Provide ease of access for persons with various disabilities (i.e., blind and low vision, text-to-speech application friendly)
-The creation of a French language version of the website
-The creation of website mechanisms that provide ease of access for individuals that require it
-Ensure that our website meets AODA website compliance

-Provide a way to easily access data for statistical and demographic purposes
-Capacity building for future needs
-Provide a web layout that can facilitate the integration of multilingual language formats of all content
-Establish a Diversity Library web layout design that supports circulation capacities of future physical copies
